Dancing with Disabilities

Social Work

Care Organisations

Dance, connection, ritual and play are important ingredients for creating or remembering a sense of meaning and empowerment. These can quite simply be translated to a variety of contexts, including social work settings, day care facilities, care homes and facilities for disabled people.

Working with these ingredients can remedy feelings of disconnection, loneliness, emptiness, isolation and estrangement. Key elements are re-establishing a positive sense of self in combination with (and I believe that this is crucial!) connection to others, nature and the mysteries of life.

Like in any other space I facilitate, I aim to create an atmosphere that enhances respect for self and others, inclusion, integrity, exploration, humour, creativity and celebration. The work is not based in therapy, but simply in sharing movement, time and stories together.
