Background as Dancer

After my first ballet steps at the local school when I was seven, I undertook a professional dance training at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam, the High School for Music and Dance in Rotterdam, and at CODARTS, Rotterdam.

I trained in classical ballet, various styles of contemporary dance (Graham, Limon, European contract/release style), jazz, Ethnic Eastern European and African dance, improvisation, choreography, Pilates, and in my free time (because I simply couldn't stop dancing) I explored ballroom, Latin American repertoire and sacred dance.

When I realised that the rigorous training somehow diminished my joy in dancing, I chose not to become a professional dance performer. Back then, I could not see that the dance was so much larger than performing on stage. It took a long detour to find that out! However, slowly my joy for the dance returned, although I promised myself never to have bloody toes from point work again…

I found a whole new resource in dancing out in nature. Since 2006, I also studied intensively with the School of Movement Medicine in Devon, in which I recently graduated as fully qualified teacher. You can find my profile here.

Dance has always been my personal tool for expression, connection and spirituality, and I look forward to dancing with YOU!
